Where's the cake?

A world weary man walked into the sanctuary and tiredly found a seat. I was on the platform that evening and watched him throughout the service. He seemed detached from everything that was around him. I hoped the praise and worship service would move him beyond his despondence. However, the hopeless expression remained. I knew the life changing power of the preached word, so I anticipated the change that would take place in his life. Sadly, nothing happened. My pastor called the church to the altar and still, nothing. I was beginning to feel as depressed as he looked, because I knew God could turn his situation around. After dismissal my pastor went back and greeted the man. I watched as my pastor laid hands on him and began to pray for him. I rejoiced as this man gave his troubled life to the Lord and in return received HOPE. I later learned Bro. Gene had recently tried to take his own life, but thankfully had failed. The Lord had brighter plans for his future. The next week his wife came and also met HOPE for the first time. Another week went by and his son found the happiness his parents had experienced. As we were leaving church that evening, Clark greeted Bro. Gene and asked him how he was doing. I loved his response..., "Having my family come to church with me is just more icing on the cake. In fact, the Lord has put so much icing on my cake that I can't even find the cake anymore!"

My mind is drawn back to that statement as I ponder over my own life. Clark and I have been married 14 years now. He is my life's greatest blessing. I thank the Lord daily for my husband. We have been given the privilege to raise 3 incredible boys. Even at the young ages of 11, 8, and 4 their relationship with the Lord amazes me. Our lives have not been without trials, sadness, tears or frustration; but the Lord has strengthened our bond through each of the valleys. The Lord adds more icing to the Presson cake daily. If we wanted to get to the cake, we wouldn't be able to find it!
