Landry's really REAL emergency

I heard the scream come from the backyard. It was NOT a playful scream... more like a highly painful scream. A "mama come runnin'"scream! And that is just what I did! Avery was carrying my little man with a limp arm behind his back. I am very experienced in the broken bone excitement. When I took Landry, he looked up with those big, beautiful, black eyes full of tears (dramatic, I know - but my BABY was hurting!) and said, "Mama, this is really a REAL emergency!" I had to agree with him. I laid him on the couch, and got the ice pack that has been used for the previous 3 broken bones along with a hefty dose of Motrin. Within a matter of minutes, I had A & R change out of their muddy clothes, sprayed my hair, packed a few snacks because it was supper time, called Clark, called my parents, and was out the door to the doctor. I really am a pro at this - not by choice, but by necessity.

My little man was, as my father-in-law would say, a real trooper through this time. Landry insisted on walking into the doctor instead of being carried, because he is not a baby...I am thinking...but you are a baby! The diagnosis was a broken wrist at the growth plate. The nurse wrapped it in a soft splint and sling(L called it a slink), and told Landry not to use it as a weapon. Of course, he LOVED that! The doctor told me to call the Orthopaedics in the morning.

Because I have been there often, I knew that they would wait for 3 days for the swelling to go down and then see Landry. Those 3 days were absolute torture! Trying to keep Landry still, in a soft splint is not an easy task to say the least. I was a nervous wreck by Friday. After many mind changes and color discussions he FINALLY choose a green cast. He is very proud of it...and loves telling the story of how he fell out of the unzipped door of the trampoline "cage." The nurse discussed this with him until his cast had hardened. He promptly jumped/fell off of the table onto the broken arm. "Wow, I didn't even feel that, this thing really IS hard!" Thank goodness for that!

The nurse...who is quickly becoming a friend of mine since she has taken care of all of the other broken bones...said she hopes she won't see us again soon! She did compliment me on my well-mannered, handsome boys - and that of course, made my heart smile! If only they were handsome, well-mannered, and shatter-proof!

"I love you more..."

We say "I Love You" often at our house. It is one of those things that you can never say enough! It is something that comes naturally to say to my sons, and especially to Clark. Life gets in the way, and we get busy. A distance can grow alarmingly fast in a home, but those three small words pull it back together again.

When Riley was a toddler he LOVED chocolate pudding. I was tucking him in one night, and he sleepily mumbled, "Mama, I love you more than chocolate pudding." That is one of my very favorite of all my motherhood moments. We have used that phrase a million times since then. I love you more than ice cream...I love you more than Krispy Kreme donuts...I love you more than Dollywood...I love you more than football...the boys and I try to top one another in our "I love you more than..." phrases. Landry has added a little something extra. When he thinks of a really good one he ends it with, "Now that's a lotta love!"

Clark and I have started the Daniel Fast. It is a 21 day fast that several members of our church are participating in. Since January 4th, we have given up many pleasurable delectables. We have eaten fruits and vegetables, nuts, and water. As Bro. Carpenter put it - if it grows out of the ground- we are eating it! I will admit that it has been incredibly difficult at times...I am really missing my bread, especially my sweets, and eating out. It has been very difficult to spend so much time preparing each meal, especially on the busier than busy days. But, I am finding that my time with the Lord is growing sweeter and sweeter. He is renewing burdens and opening my eyes to new things. I am wholeheartedly telling him that I love Him more...more than sugar, more than caffeine, more than chocolate, more than the convenience of easily prepared meals. Lord, I love you more. It may sound simple, but it is amazing how much closer you feel to the Him when you get even the little things out of the way.

There was once a young ruler that asked Jesus what he could do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him to sell all that he had and give it to the poor. Sadly, the rich young ruler was unable to say, "Lord, I love you more." How often am I like him? Am I able to say I love YOU more than my "me" time, more than television, more than facebook, more than the simple cares of this life? I pray through these days of fasting that my relationship with him is strengthened to the point that I am able to lay aside ANYTHING that might come my way that could hinder my walk with Him.
"Lord, draw me closer to you!" For He's the One who proved that He loved me more...loved me more than life.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year - 2010! Amazing...it feels like I was just getting ready for Y2K...yes, I was one of those that planned diligently for it! My garage was full of water, canned goods, can opener, powdered milk, batteries, flashlights and chocolate galore! Also, plenty of pull-ups, baby wipes and toilet paper!! The older I get the speedier a decade gets! Whew! So excited to see what the next one brings! It will certainly bring me into a new realm of motherhood, the teen years (eventually) for all three of my boys. Clark and I are praying about major changes in our lives, and although I do not feel I can discuss them now, I am asking that you will help us in praying about them!

Monday night I started MAKING the boys get in the showers. They have not yet realized the necessity of daily bathing. I heard all showers come on and once again felt victorious! Avery called for me in a calm, yet panicky-filled voice. You know the voice, the one that immediately makes your heart pound and all fight or flight sensors tune in! I rushed to his bathroom. The bathtub was splattered with blood and was streaming down one wall. He said, "I'm bleeding, Mama, and I don't know where it is coming from!" At this point, I am scared out of my mind. I begin checking all cracks and crevices(literally) for spurting blood. My oldest son was shaking, and I was too. It finally hit me that he is shaking from laughter...I then notice that he was holding a new bottle of Axe Bodywash in his hand. He (so sweetly) turns it upside down and squirts a stream of manly smelling, look a-like blood into the tub. Now, MY blood is boiling - Avery, and all the other men-folk in my home enjoyed this immensely!

My home is never quiet, calm or boring...

He might look sweet and innocenct..but looks ARE deceiving!
